Mr. Sha Zukang is an outstanding diplomat of China, who has successively served as Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, Deputy Director General of the International Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Ambassador of China to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Director General of the Arms Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Representative and Ambassador of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Switzerland and other international organizations, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, and in his 37-year diplomatic career, Mr. Sha Zukang has been involved in a wide range of fields such as politics, security, economy, society, human rights, and humanitarianism.

In June 2012, Mr. Sha Zukang assumed the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, responsible for the United Nations "Rio+20" conference, and organized 193 countries around the world to sign the "Our Envisioned Future" treaty document, establishing the status of green economy as an important initiative in the field of global sustainable development, laying an important foundation for the world to promote green economy and promote sustainable development.

In January 2014, he became the Honorary President of the International Green Economy Association.
