In June 2012, IGEA attended the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and delivered a report of China's Green Business Opportunities and IGEA's Actions of Green Development, and displayed the ‘Green China Wall’. IGEA met with international organisations such as the United Nations Sustainable Energy Summit and the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) and spoke on the theme of ‘World Sustainable Development and Green Economy’.

RIO+20 culminates with the outcome document ‘Green Economy - The Future We Want’, which establishes green economy as the primary means of achieving sustainable development in the history of humankind. At the same time, it laid the foundation for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development (GAFSD) indicators.

On 5 July 2016, the ‘G20 Civil Society (C20) Summit’ opened in Qingdao, China. IGEA was invited as a member of the C20 to the conference. IGEA Executive Chairman Deng Jihai was invited and made a speech on "Green Development and Civilian Contribution".

In 2017, the secretariat of the 13th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD-COP13) has officially awarded IGEA as an observer of UNCCD COP. In September of the same year, IGEA was invited to attend the Conference and hosted the 'Summit on Desertification Governance and Green Economy', which demonstrated IGEA's efforts made in promoting green economy and sustainable development and combating desertification.

From 2015 to 2023, IGEA has been carrying out China-Pakistan green investment cooperation for several years, and has organised more than 100 Chinese entrepreneurs to visit Pakistan, provided assistance to Pakistan for many times, and built a bridge between China's green industry and Pakistan’s.

IGEA is the organisational and service agency of the environmental and green development section of CIFTIS. The ‘CIFTIS-Global Green Development and Carbon Neutral Conferences and Carbon Neutral Exhibitions" held annually by IGEA provides a platform for foreign institutions, international organisations, Chinese government, and Chinese and foreign industries to showcase, exchange and cooperate on the delivery of the goal of green development and carbon neutral .

IGEA actively liaises with the embassies of the six Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar), along with relevant business organisations and enterprises in China to facilitate the economic and trade cooperation between China's Bohai Bay region and the Gulf countries.

On 20 May 2023, IGEA supported the ‘Bohai Bay (Cangzhou) - Gulf Cooperation Forum’ by organising exchanges between representatives from the 12 Bohai cities, including Cangzhou, Qinhuangdao, Jinzhou, Panjin, Dalian and Yingkou, and representatives from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries to promote cooperation in the fields of port and shipping, green chemicals, modern logistics and cross-border e-commerce.

IGEA has carried out dialogue on international rules on climate trade policy with the EU and other international organisations, and organised Chinese industrial groups, Chinese and European carbon management agencies among other parties to establish a service platform of Chinese industrial carbon management in response to the EU's CBAM.

In December 2023, IGEA organised the delegation of Chinese [Carbon Pathfinder] enterprises to participate in the UNFCCC COP28.

During COP28, IGEA hosted the side event on ‘Renewable Energy and the New Paradigm of Human Economic Growth’, and released ‘Chinese Carbon Pathfinder Actions and Global Carbon Management Initiative". It has also joined hands with the European Union Asia Centre in hosting the COP28 Side Event on ‘Towards Carbon Neutral - Actions and Outlook of China's Green Economy ’. The event brought together high-level experts from the United Nations, leaders from international organisations, officials from the European Commission and the delegation from the Chinese green industry to exchange views on the actions and outlook of green low-carbon development in China and the world. Stories of the green low-carbon practices of the Chinese industry were vividly recounted to epitomise China's efforts in addressing climate change.
